Wc flushing syphons

Advances in technology conserve water

Save time, save water, and save money !

Syphons are WC flushing devices that were mandatory in the UK (in some places) from 1872 – 1999.

Although flush valves and push buttons are popular in new installations, a vast majority of UK toilets are operated using a syphon and lever. As a result, the market for replacing old, worn syphons with new ones is significant.

Syphons are activated by depressing a lever. This starts a syphonic action, discharging water held in the cistern into the WC pan to provide the flush.

SAVING TIME

There are essentially two types of syphon – one piece and two piece. The major advantage of two piece syphons is that they allow the syphon body to be removed from the cistern without having to disconnect the water supply and dismantle the cistern (as with one piece syphons). Servicing can then be carried out in minutes instead of hours, minimising any disruption.

SAVING WATER

With conservation in mind, water-saving syphons are now available that provide dualflush flushing. This has previously only been available with flushing valves. Water saving syphons are also listed on DEFRA’s Water Technology List. This enables businesses to claim 100% first year capital allowances on investments in technologies and products that encourage sustainable water use.
